From exoskeletons increasing physical strength to genetically modified trees that reduce carbon and the ever-expanding metaverse, South By Southwest (SXSW) brings out innovation, and there’s no shortage of new things to experience.

Part music festival, part film premiere, and part tech conference, the festival, held annually in Austin, Texas, is a destination for those pushing boundaries no matter their medium.

That’s why two Wells Fargo thought leaders participated at SXSW 2023, which features keynotes from the likes of Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Tilda Swinton, and the band New Order.

Chintan Mehta, chief information officer of Wells Fargo Digital Technology and Innovation, is part of this year’s SXSW Interactive (SXSWi), a platform for the latest and greatest innovators in design, energy, transportation, technology, and more.

Mehta joined Darío Gil, IBM SVP and Director of Research, and Kia Kokalitcheva, a San Francisco-based technology reporter with Axios, to discuss Will Quantum Change the Way We Bank? They shared insights about how quantum computing will push the envelope on speed and efficiency, and what companies should be doing to prepare. Since 2019, Wells Fargo has been part of the IBM Quantum Network, an international collective of companies, universities, and startups that are preparing for a future with quantum computing.

Jenny Flores, head of Small Business Growth Philanthropy at Wells Fargo, took the stage at the inaugural LatinX Innovation Hub to discuss how to accelerate small business growth and close the racial wealth gap. The hub, a day-long event during SXSW, connected Latinx leaders from technology to finance to highlight how Latinx people are changing entrepreneurship, financial services, media, and more.

SXSW 2023 is expected to draw more than 160,000 people to Austin March 10 – 19. Mehta and the technology team will share their key festival takeaways here next week.
