Lynette Jones is grateful to be able to reach out to veterans and her community through her internet radio talk show. After serving four tours of duty, she knows the challenges veterans face when they come home.
“Being a veteran, being overseas, being able to relate, being able to understand, that’s the way that I can give back through media,” she said.
Jones knows firsthand the value of communication to soldiers. When she was overseas, she received greeting cards from the American Red Cross as part of its “Holidays for Heroes” program, in which school kids and other volunteers send supportive messages to active duty military personnel.
“It’s a great morale booster,” Jones said, “because a lot of these soldiers, they didn’t have anybody to send them mail or anything.”
Wells Fargo has teamed up with the Los Angeles Rams to support the Red Cross in this outreach effort. The company is celebrating this collaboration in the 2017 Rose Parade®, which will feature three Wells Fargo stagecoaches. Jones and other veterans will ride in one of those stagecoaches, accompanied by representatives from the Red Cross, the Rams, and Wells Fargo team members who have served in the military.
Jones is already practicing her parade wave.
“Wow, being selected to ride, being profiled and actually participate in the Rose Parade … It’s an honor,” she said with a smile.
