Foreign exchange services keep Rick Steves’ Europe globetrotting

Rick Steves’ Europe needed a way to quickly purchase tickets and make reservations — and found it after turning to Wells Fargo.

Most people know vacation guru Rick Steves for his television series, radio show, and syndicated column — or his signature guided European tours and guidebooks.

But did you know the company he founded in 1976 — Rick Steves’ Europe — now has 80 full-time employees?

Those employees in the U.S. use wire transfers to secure reservations for tour groups that are visiting the Louvre in Paris, Vatican and Coliseum in Rome, and other sites.

According to company controller Beth Sneeringer, “Our tours have grown in the last three years, and the number of transactions that we make has grown, too. We needed to become much more efficient in how we process those transactions.”

So Rick Steves’ Europe turned to Wells Fargo’s eCommerce team in Foreign Exchange.

Sneeringer says the Wells Fargo team, including Sarah Avery and Susan Ilvanakis, helped improve the company’s process for wire transfers.

The result: Wire transfers that used to take all day to process now take about 30 minutes using the Foreign Exchange online service to purchase euros.

“We are very attuned to our customers,” says Susan. “We don’t feel that it’s a one-size-fits-all approach.”
