I was born in Laos, and in 1975, my family was among the thousands of Southeast refugees who relocated as a result of several civil wars. Among the few items my mother packed was one large metal spoon made from recycled warplanes because she wasn’t sure if there would be any spoons in the U.S. This humble beginning inspires my work — to believe in human kindness, a sense of community, and the American Dream.
