In a sport dominated by men, in a country devoted to cricket, Nisha Yadav stands out. Nisha, who has played baseball for five years, is a pitcher for the Hyderabad Chargers. The women’s team has traveled across India and last year played in an international tournament in Seoul, South Korea.
“People in India know about baseball, but I have to explain how it’s played,” she says.
Her biggest challenge on the diamond, she says, was learning how to throw a curve ball. In college, she played basketball and was asked to try out for the softball team. Then one of her coaches asked her to play baseball — “because of my arm power,” she says.
Nisha, who works with Wells Fargo Capital Finance, says her Wells Fargo team has been supportive by attending games and cheering her on.
Since starting with Wells Fargo more than a year ago, she can only practice mornings and weekends, but says she is looking forward to the next international tournament.
When asked if she’s a pioneer, Nisha says modestly, “I’m doing it because I like it.”
